BRIONY GREENHILL
Briony Greenhill teaches and performs vocal improvisation internationally. With The Elements quintet she recently released the world's first entirely improvised five-voice album, entitled Listen. Briony teaches retreats in wild places and now a year long course named Wild Voice, Solid Roots. She spent years studying with masters of vocal improvisation in America, France and India. Students describe her work as "epic" and "life-changing", and the BBC describes Briony's voice as "heaven of the highest order." A performing singer since age 11, this is the art form she loves. www.brionygreenhill.com
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BRIONY’S WORK:
“It was epic – and that’s an understatement."
“It was deeper than an ayahuasca ceremony; I grew more than in workshops with leading psychologists, and it’s the safest I’ve ever felt in a group.”
“You are a master.”
“One of the most powerful experiences of my life! I feel changed on a cellular level!”
“Being bathed in beauty. Being held in love. Being winkled out of a shell. Being birthed into a new world.”
“You made it feel like a womb. Protected, loved, nourished, warm and holding.”
-----------------------------------------------------------
RED K ELDERS
I bring my experience in many varied somatic movement and bodywork techniques, including Authentic Movement, Contact Improvisation and Five Rhythms, as well as my training in deep bodywork, massage therapy and various meditation and visualisation practises.
I host a monthly rural community-building gathering which mixes dance, drumming, voice work and listening circle, as well as other one-off workshops which explore movement bodywork and voice work overlaid with richly metaphoric themes from faery and folk takes and poetry.
During this weekend, I will be leading guided explorations in and through the body, opening and feeling into our sensual connection with all the living woodland. We’ll be exploring the embodiment of our deepest truest expression of ourselves, following the mystical journey unwinding through our forms.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT RED’S WORK:
“You create such an amazing magical and safe space, I felt so held and able to explore really deeply within myself."
“I love how you seem to conduct and mix the energy in the room, it’s like you are weaving us all together in love."
"You are a Changer of Story, and that is a special role reserved for only the strongest sorts. We need you. You lead us to Humanity 2.0 from within."

MORE ABOUT VOCAL IMPROVISATION
We usually sing songs. Folk songs, choral compositions, band songs, songs we've written.
What happens when you take the song away, but keep singing? Alone and with others?
In India they'll say that God sings through. In Shona culture, it's the Ancestors. For me, it's Nature. When we drop the song, the knowing, the form - and listen, really listen - somehow we allow Life to sing us and Life is pretty magnificent.
Vocal Improvisation is an extreme sport, for singers with a creativity that naturally reaches out beyond the form of songs, and into a wilder territory. It's for singers who can sing in tune, keep a beat, and want an adventure.
We'll play with the forms that help singers create layered sound baskets, drop deeply into the resonant body and bring out the voice in its fullness, and we'll play. Play play play.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes we may look outwards for our path, our journey in life, but what happens when we gather all our attention and bring it back inwards… listening… feeling…
Letting thinking thoughts float away, dropping down into the sensate pulse of flesh, we start paying exquisite attention to the astonishing wisdom of the wholebody, noticing and following the tiniest micro-muscular movements and impulses. Allowing… whatever wants to unfold, whatever wants to be expressed in the moment.
Simultaneously, becoming more acutely aware of minuscule movement, breath and expression in the living world, and feeling into our dancing with the liquid symphony of all things. How we are all so intimately entangled. The leaf expresses its quivering newness in my trembling wrist. Focused determination grows through my legs from the earth. Yes, we will play. Play play play.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Notes from last year's summer camp at The Clearing:
"Is there a word for the tears that bloom from overwhelming experiences of beauty? The spillage of opened and voluptuous hearts. Realness, rawness, tenderness. Intimacy. Rippling widening circles of resonance. Here is our heart song manifesting as community. The simple sublime... making music together. Dancing, singing, speaking, listening, sharing food, laughter, loving touch, tears and holding each other. Grief and praise. Beautiful experiences such as this awaken every cell of my being to a deep longing yearning for more... more than I dare to admit to fully. But I am reminded by a wise kingfisher: in this world of brokenness, to want more of this beauty is Holy."

EOSTRE: SNAKES DRAGONS & EGGS. CHILDREN'S WOODLAND NATURE DAY
with Sue Bayliss and Red K Elders
10:00am - 15:00pm Saturday 8th April 2017
Celebrating Eostre and the Spring as a time of renewal.
A day for children aged 6 - 12 to connect with nature.
Spring is a time of awakening and new life. Eostre was the Anglo Saxon goddess of the dawn and was associated with hares and eggs, symbols of fertility. Snakes and dragons are associated with the Spring Equinox.
Our plan for the day is to:
Call in the five directions, Air in the East, Fire in the South, Water in the West, Earth in the North and Spirit at the Centre. Centre ourselves with breathing deeply and coming home to our bodies.
Discover all the signs of spring growth in the woods around us and choose one flower or tree or plant to draw. Discuss what is awakening in you, dreams, ideas, friendships. And what you might want to let go of as the winter departs.
Discuss the significance of the snake that sheds its skin and represents regeneration. Find a snake like stick and paint it to look like a snake.
After lunch and some play time, the children will enjoy a restful visualisation of becoming a seed growing to open to the sun as a plant with shoots.
Egg painting. Eggs are associated with Easter and come from the pagan roots. We will paint hard boiled eggs to take home.
After some play time with a new version of tag, we will study dragons, find out about different kinds and hear a dragon story from a book by Ursula La Guin. The dragon is associated with the Goddess and with the Spring Equinox. The children will make up their own dragon story in which the dragon has something important to tell them. They may act one of them out.
Home time with the drawings of flower, snake stick and egg to take home.
Cost: £20
additional siblings £5

ABOUT THE GROUP LEADERS:
Sue Bayliss is a trained teacher and holistic therapist. She has done a training in Mindfulness for Educators with Thich Nhat Hanh and is passionate about running days for children to connect with nature. She recently had an article published on the Green Parent magazine website about a day she led in Salhouse with home educated children. She has also run a day at the Magical Free Spirit School run by Hannah Hardy. Her two grand children help her to inhabit the world of young children and she regularly looks after them and takes them on trips into the countryside to experience the natural world. She is keen to enable children to have spiritual experiences and learn to honour the Earth and all her living beings.
Ritual and ceremony are helpful to mark the ceremonies associated with the turning of the the year. An interest in Celtic mythology and practices and a variety of shamanic trainings give her plenty of ideas to lead the children in celebrating the different times of the year.
Red K Elders
created and ran Mighty Oaks parent and child/community group for 6 years,
mostly all outdoors, assisted by the natural elements of the glorious woodland. She has also also led many woodland workshop days, passing on traditional skills and crafts
she learned from her mother and grandmothers to new generations.
As well as organising many local dance, movement, therapy workshops and arts and crafts events,
her monthly Heart Song event offers a beautiful held space to journey together through movement and dance, deep listening circle and voicework.
Nourishing and supporting over 200 local familes, these activities have gifted her with a wealth of experience in holding safe and sacred structured space for both adults and children to soften, release and grow together.

SHARING THE TERRAIN
with Robert Anderson
Saturday 13th May
10:30am until 5:30pm (all are welcome to stay after and share food round the fire)
Moving outdoors provides a wonderful opportunity to open our senses and meet the
natural environment
with curiosity. We will ground and centre our selves as we breathe and move with earth and flora.
Heightening our sense of touch, weight and mass we can follow impulses
to take us into a dance where inner and outer landscapes meet.
Alone and as a group, we will engage in a sensual and playful approach toward our environment, using our skin and senses as interfaces and spaces to meet.
From here we can start to encounter each other with the same sense of listening and sensitivity.
We will explore methods to harness the energies of our bodies in shared pathways of movement.
During the day we will explore some of the key principles of contact improvisation to develop a language
that can be used for spontaneous movement with a partner.
Exercises will examine principles for leading and following, maintaining a shifting point of contact,
and getting comfortable with giving and receiving weight.
The work expands our ability to be both strong and soft, supported and supportive, receptive and responsive.
After studying some simple techniques for safe and easeful movement we will have time for exploration, improvisation and play.
What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation is a movement-form open to all ages and bodies of all shapes and sizes. No prior experience required. Everyone is welcome and there is need to come with a partner. Contact Improvisation is a dance of improvising and partnering based on the
physics of touch, balance, weight, momentum, flow and resistance. It has
been variously described as an art sport, a game with two winners and a
physical conversation.
Contact dances can range from the quietly meditative to the exuberantly acrobatic.
It is a dance form that fine tunes our senses and wakes up our ability to listen
and respond to what is happening in the moment.
It is a form of movement open to all bodies and enquiring minds.

DANCING IN THE WOODS
with Tim Broughton
Saturday 3rd June
1:00pm until 7pm (dancers are welcome to stay after and share food round the fire)
Dancing the Five Rhythms out in nature helps us literally come down to earth.
The Clearing, surrounded by beautiful woodland, provides a natural amphitheatre for exploring the Rhythms, and our ongoing healing with nature.
We are innately a creation of nature. Our Western way of living serves to separate us from an everyday experiencing of being-in-nature. Dancing the Rhythms is a natural pathway to reset ourselves into harmony with nature once again. We are gathering on the earth, surrounded by the natural elements, to heal the separation so that we can again experience the connectedness, the joy and the ecstasy of being-in-nature; to feel one with Life.
